When Clemency Possesses You

Clemency, that another skin

refuses to come off, lives like that ghost

who lives rent-free in your body’s home

no matter how many times you wash that

naked skin, it seeps deeper like the fresh water

droplets, slowly making their way beneath,

it stays for a long like you are holding on to the

ghosts of your past, peeking out more often

from inside your heart, finding its way

to reach those you wish to liberate from your mind.

It doesn’t stop there. What if you have to live

with it your whole life? Clemency becomes the garment,

of soul, you are not able to take it off

it sits on you to cover your body from all those

unwanted ghouls you carry in your head

trying to come out through your mouth

they will sit there, silently for as long you allow

trying to overcome, to come out, but will you

let them take over? Let clemency flow out of you

but you are not ready! Not yet, how can it be easy

enough to be given? Let it melt from you like

honey and not amber. But you are not ready yet!

It’s a ghost, it can’t leave you any sooner,

knowing you have become comfortable living with it

than the world that lives around you.

It’s a balm to your soul to hold grudges now

all the time, awake or asleep,

feels more like home, having two faces,

the evil that stays inside, and the kindness that speaks!

Are you becoming the saint or the sinner

for your soul? Petting a ghost wasn’t your game, but you

have learnt the art, clemency now possesses your entire being…
